In the course of recovery from internet pornography use it’s important to have a filter installed that you trust. It does not cure your addiction. Someone who uses a filter without working on their distorted perceptions is akin to a “dry drunk,” and may, given the chance,  go right back into viewing.

One thing that’s fairly unique about Covenant Eyes is that they have an accountability program that lets you choose a partner to be accountable to for your internet viewing. This is often a more powerful deterrent than a filter. There are of course places I use the internet where I don’t have the filter installed, but those are places typically like the library, public places where pornography viewing is both harder to access and prohibited.

I’ve used the Covenant Eyes filter for over a year now. Just like any filter it takes some tweaking to get it working just the way that you need. I currently have the restricted settings applied and have access to a handful of websites that I have decided I’d like to visit on a regular basis. Yes, I know, my freedom is limited, right? Well, while I have become limited I now am seeking freedom by placing healthy boundaries around my known “cliffs” that I may one day be free.
