WRAP Week

LDS Family Services Support Group

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS or Mormon) have put together through LDS Family Services a free addiction recovery program with supporting group meetings. They follow a modified 12 Step format. They begin and end with a prayer. Each meeting is presided over by service missionaries with an experienced group member that acts as facilitator. After an invocation, the meetings start by reading a step from the addiction recovery manual. The steps have been adapted to center on Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ as opposed to the “higher power” of Alcoholics Anonymous. While there are some topics specific to LDS, the principles could be applied by all.

There are general addiction meetings as well as specific ones dealing with sexual topics. There are meeting to help spouses understand and talk about their husband’s struggles. In some locations there are also couple meetings where everyone meets together.

Meetings are free, but participants are encouraged to purchase a manual/workbook and actively work through things on their own during the week.

You can find a meeting near you, download a free pdf version of the recovery manual as well as an audio version at  ProvidentLiving.org
