I remember enjoying a play where an upstanding man in the community discovered a potion in his laboratory experiments that gave him power. It was a dark power though and he soon found himself a completely different man when under it’s influence. By day he was the honorable Dr. Jekyll and by night, the depraved and vicious Mr. Hyde.
Addictions are interesting beasts. They are cravings that can never be satisfied and they often take on a life of their own. Pornography use, fantasizing and/or masturbation can lead a handful of other deviant sexual behaviors. The power of our sex drive, when misguided can soon become our master, leading us to places we never thought we could go. Beauty turns to gray. Excitements become dull. A life worth living is soon not worth living.
But, there’s hope!
I have been caught in a web of sexual addiction for almost 20 years now and I’ve just now started to see beauty again. With all the joy that should accompany every life, I have begun to heal though the power of the Lord Jesus Christ. Through a daily study of his words I have begun to hope again.
