Jeff Fisher was an average American child. He grew up in a religious home that didn’t discuss touchy topics like sex. And Jeff felt drawn to fantasy & masturbation. Marriage didn’t solve his problem as he thought it would. And when the internet entered the home Jeff was slowly drawn back into that world of fantasy, this time with the help of pornography. Recalling the beginnings of his addictive behavior Jeff realizes now that he had many unmet needs in Jr. high and even on through college and into his marriage, but no one he could talk to about it who also had the skill needed to guide someone through a situation like his.
Through a humiliating turn of events, Jeff & his wife Marsha found themselves leaving behind a church and ministry that they had loving built for several years. During this difficult time both Jeff & Marsha stumbled through life seeking to understand the best they could how to deal with Jeff’s addiction and all the new changes that were occurring because of his struggle coming to light.
Eventually they found friends to confide in, counselors to help educate them on the nuances of real intimacy in their marriage and now, they’ve found the strength & guidance to share their story with others. It has been through this “compassionate,” refining time that Jeff & Marsha have come to know more fully their Savior. Jeff always felt that their distance from official ministry was only temporary. Perhaps now the Lord can use them to help stem the tide of this gigantic modern plague.
In his Honest Answers Podcast interview Jeff answers the following questions in powerful clarity:
- Can I overcome an addiction to pornography alone?
- How do I tell my spouse about my struggles with porn?
- I know I should stop looking at porn, but don’t want to. What can I do?
