September 30th, 2010

Now with our ability to look much deeper into the body and brain we understand that those differences are much more intricate and complex than just shape and size. Dr. Struthers talks about the difference in how women and men experience sexual intimacy and pornography. Much understanding comes to the surface in this episode of the Honest Answers Podcast. Is pornography really an addiction?

September 28th, 2010

With all the controversy surrounding whether pornography can be used like a drug to create addictive patterns, Dr. William Struthers believes it can go both ways. But for those who use pornography and hope to be found on the side of steering clear of any addiction, beware. Even users who are not technically trapped by an addiction are imprinting things on their minds that come out in unhealthy ways in their relationships. Hear how Dr. Struthers defines porn addiction in this episode of the Honest Answers Podcast. He discussed Attention Deficit Disorder and more.

How can I get started on the path to REAL freedom from porn addiction?

September 11th, 2010

Jon’s been in low places. There were times when his self worth was so low he had absolutely no hope that he’d ever escape from the clutches of pornography. His solution began with God. Faith in anything else can’t work. We each have a “God hole” within us that can only be filled by him. It’s when this hole is filled that the many solutions commonly available instantly start to come alive, they have meaning and power to create in our external worlds a mirror of our new changed inner world. If you have tried so many things and are continutally frustrated, take some quiet time to invite God into your heart as you listen to Jon’s message in this episode of the Honest Answers Podcast.

What does REAL freedom from porn look like and how does a person get there?

September 11th, 2010

This question was chosen by Jon, but it mirrors the purpose behind our creation the second video explaining the Destination Freedom Map: Where Are You Going? When you don’t know where you want to go, what a victory or a success looks like, it’s much much harder to come by. Many wander aimlessly looking for happiness, kept from it, just because they don’t know what they are looking for. I came out of this conversation with Jon Snyder with a powerful vision as to what I can hope for as I continue on my journey to freedom from porn addiction. Jon explains how many programs preach “sin maintenance” or rather how to keep away from certain actions like looking at porn or masturbating. It wasn’t until I heard Jon’s freedom looked like that I realized how right on it is to expect a complete healing, but not in behavior modification (will have to change the subtitle of my Destination Freedom recovery map). Don’t miss this episode of the Honest Answers Podcast, I mean it! You NEED to know this and you NEED to know it now. It seriously changed me.

What’s the MOST IMPORTANT thing EVERYONE struggling with porn needs to know?

September 10th, 2010

Jon Snyder thought he knew about love, but over the course of three years he was taught from on high about what it means to accept ourselves and turn our wills over to God. Once bitter towards the Christian faith he was raised in, Jon has now come embrace with all his heart a relationship with his Father in Heaven. And it’s a good thing he did. It’s what changed his heart and desire for porn. Jon no longer can even identify with the man he was when he struggled almost daily strong urges to look at pornography. It wasn’t his accountability group that did it. It wasn’t telling his future wife. It wasn’t even after going to a counselor that porn lost its grip on Jon. It was only after learning the foundational principles he talks about in this episode of the Honest Answers Podcast that everything clicked. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

What role does secrecy play in a pornography addiction?

September 8th, 2010

Luke Gilkerson of Covenant Eyes knows about secrecy. He has always liked to share with people about his struggles, but he found that he was always keeping a part of that back. He now understands the role secrecy plays in chains forged by pornography. Luke is now dedicated to help people bring the conversation about pornography out of the head and into the open. He does so through his work at Covenant Eyes, who created the internet accountability software that I use.

Like Luke, some may mention that they struggle to not look at pornography, but many also play games with those whom they talk to about it. They may act out and postpone confession in order to then be able to report that they’ve had some good sobriety, couching their confession a positive statement. This oft times becomes more about how good they look to others rather than honesty.

Luke brings up the 3 things that psychologist Al Cooper’s says drive the fascination people have with internet pornography: affordability, accessibility & anonymity. Luke also suggests that we’re meant to be around people with whom we can be transparent. Secrecy is the lifeblood of addiction I recently heard. Join Luke and I as he discusses the role that secrecy plays in a pornography addiction:

What is the role of fantasy in a porn addiction?

September 6th, 2010

In our stressful lives we often escape to worlds of fantasy. “Imagination is a universal experience,”  says Luke Gilkerson of Covenant Eyes Radio. “We can let it carry us to faraway lands.” And in these fantasy worlds the main character is often ourselves, where everything revolves around us. While there’s nothing wrong with giving ourselves attention, it’s the manner in which it’s done that makes the difference. Luke talks in this episode of the Honest Answers Podcast about how fantasy can turn into a form of idolatry or self-worship. A very interesting topic that you’re not going to want to miss.

I’m a Christian, why am I still tempted to look at porn?

September 4th, 2010

Christians aren’t immune to temptation. Choosing Christ doesn’t mean just a new set of moral commitments. It’s a divine transaction with God that establishes in us a whole new identity; however, we still have the pulls of the flesh. Real faith in Jesus is a faith that fights sin.

Join us in this episode of the Honest Answers Podcast as Luke Gilkerson of Covenant Eyes Radio explains the Christian dilemma. He brings to light some powerful scriptures about change as well as some insight from John Piper. Let us all be ravenous for joy & let God do his work in us to create something greater than we ever imagined possible.
